Origin Story

The seeds of the TerraX Adventure Society were sown in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. For me, life had been a series of diverse experiences – military service, firefighting, commercial driving, and overlanding – yet none truly ignited the sense of purpose I craved. It was amidst the chaos and urgency of Helene’s devastation, while participating in rescue efforts and delivering essential supplies, that I discovered my calling. The profound sense of purpose and fulfillment I felt during those challenging days revealed a fundamental truth: adventure and service were inextricably linked.

This revelation became the driving force behind the TerraX Adventure Society. I envisioned a community where adventure wasn’t a luxury, but an accessible path to personal growth and camaraderie. I recognized the deep need for connection in our increasingly isolated world, and sought to create a ‘home’ for those seeking both adventure and belonging. The TerraX Adventure Society was founded on the principle that everyone, regardless of background or experience, deserves the opportunity to push their boundaries, explore the world, and discover their own potential.

Beyond the thrill of exploration, I wanted to build a platform for immediate, impactful action. The Adventure Society is committed to funding and mobilizing rapid-response rescue teams, comprised of dedicated individuals ready to assist in times of crisis. By combining the spirit of adventure with a commitment to service, we strive to create a community that not only enriches the lives of its members, but also makes a tangible difference in the world.”

Who is Lee Ballard?

My path has been forged in service and adventure. From my time in the Army and as a firefighter, though cut short by injury, I learned the value of discipline, resilience, and the power of teamwork. My hands-on experience extends to the open road as a commercial truck driver and into the rugged terrain of off-road overlanding.

Born and raised in Marshall, North Carolina, a community that faced the raw power of Hurricane Helene, I understand the importance of community support and the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity. During Helene, I was active in rescue efforts and delivering essential supplies to those in need. My experiences abroad, including volunteer work in Honduras, have further broadened my perspective and deepened my belief in the interconnectedness of our world.”
